5 things meme x 2
Aug. 5th, 2009 02:05 amThis meme seems to be doing the rounds again. (The one where people give you five topic, possibly taken from your interest list, and you write a little about each).
valkyriekaren's selection is as follows:
( here be 5: bellringing, conway's life, lookiing at the stars, rain, snakeboards )
* * * *
Several months ago when a variation of this meme was doing the rounds (topics chosen by the asker rather than picked from ones profile),
faerierhona gave me these 5:
( here be 5 more: maths,Extra terrestrial life, music, spirtuality, Rhona )
Who wants 5?

2007/8 meme
Jan. 2nd, 2008 11:09 pm1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?
Knitted an item of clothing (end of August 2007) - it was a hat. I've not worn it since; instead I've made better ones - using higher quality yarn and in stripes.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Didn't make any. I won't make any more (until November).I'm doing the 101 tasks in 1001 days thing, and my current set expires then.

101 in 1001 meme
Feb. 19th, 2006 05:04 pmSeen on stephmog's journal, but the idea seems to have originated from someone calling themself Triplux.
The Mission:
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.
( rest of description )
My deadline is Sunday, November 16th 2008
Academic / Qualifications:
1. Gain my PPL
2. Gain my CBT
3. Go on a first aid course
4. Regain skills in German
5. Pass stage 2 BSL
6. Learn hypnotism
7. Using the above, cure or abate someone's phobia (current target is my sister's vertigo and associated fear of flying)
8. Learn to cook a curry
9. Learn 50 new words
10. Take another advanced driving course
( Rest of list beneath here )
Ok, so I've copied a few from other lists I've seen, but I view this as an excercise in achievement, not one of creativity.
Who else wants to join me in this quest?

Month by month rundown of 2005
Dec. 31st, 2005 02:43 pmHere follow links to selected entries from my journal over the past year.
I forgot to do this one last year too. Compared to 2003's entry, it will be a bit sparse because I didn't make so many entries in 2005. And those that I did make were generally work-related. Feel free to skip over.
January:
I Started flying lessons.
February:
I featured in a TV documentary and also had a bit of a mope.
March:
I had some work wibbles, but soon got over it. Met a few new people via LJ (rather than meeting the f2f first and then friending them)and also had a personal first (intentionally vague)
April:
My sleuthing skills once again proved useful. I unintentionally cause quite a stir in a discussion on politics.. Finished the Alpha version of my LJ2NNTP reader
May:
I went through a period of actually enjoying my work. Noticed that I'd started to go grey.. UA Meet XIII.
June:
Work took me to London and Newcastle - I got to meet up with
sheeshkebab, having not seen him for maybe 2 years? Time flies so quickly. I remember that summer so well. Went to a carnival/festival thingy in Manchester.. Hmm. Reading that month I notice that I went from Aberdeen to Southampton on adjacent days. I don't know how I put up with it.
July:
Made my first (constructive) efforts to sort out my gripes with my employer. Got stuck in Edinburgh due to G8 fuckwittery. Joint birthday party with
jenbird Got wound up by mayonaise
August:
Had a lucky escape on the motorway. Had a fabulous BiCon. Once again had it re-affirmed that it really is a small world.
September:
Made the decision to quit my job and actually did so. Remarked on pleasure from the small things in life.
October:
Talked about soppy films.
Went to a lecture at the Royal Institution. Worked my last day.
November:
Went to Whitby.
Got annoyed by tesco online grocery shopping. Went to a pub quiz on 5 consecutive nights.
Had an embarrasing dream. More small world syndrome. Looked for places to live in London.
December:
Got a job
Had an excellent BiFest - such a lovely end to my time in Manchester.. Moved to London.
Got wound up by stupid legislation.
Have a great New Year, whatever you're doing. I'm off to http://www.livejournal.com/users/ciphergoth/250435.html, after catching up with Mike and John(WINOLJ).

End of year meme, 2005 version
Dec. 29th, 2005 11:53 amWhat did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?
Live on my own.
Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't think I made any - I don't usually. *checks* OK, so I made one: To get my PPL. In retrospect, it wasn't plausible due to my previous job with the insane hours. I guess I'd like to renew that one.
Did someone close to you give birth?
Noone comes to mind.
Did anyone close to you die?
No, thankfully. Each year this question fills me with dread; I wonder how long it will be before I give the opposite answer.
What countries did you visit?
Wales. Scotland. Ireland. All for work, though I made an effort to tie in some pleasure elements with the trips to Scotland :-)
Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005:
4 inter-connected statements: Life's too short; do not hesitate. Instincts are often accurate. Trust your first impressions and have the confidence to act on them. Things will eventually sort themselves out.
Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Not just for semantic content, but just because I love bounciness of the song:

I cannot turn my feelings down.
Beyond my means to turn my thoughts around,
Expressed in every word I will ever speak.
Work today was good and made up for Tuesday which was less so. Finished on site and went back to the office to do a bit of impromptu training for a couple of the new engineers and that went well.
Last night I found a shortcut home, though it wasn't that beneficial. Tonight I managed to cut 10 minutes off what wsa a 30-something minute journey. To be more accurate, the routes were actually longer, but used quieter roads so progress was better.
Weekend:
I'm planning on going to London this weekend, but need to sort accommodation. Can anyone put me up until Monday morning? (I'm working in Middlesex that day and would rather drive down at the weekend rather than fight Monday morning motorway traffic). Social stuff is still entirely undecided so I'm open to suggestions.

Name any four people with LJs, on your friends list or not, that you have heard a lot about, but do not know well/at all, and why you would like to know them a little better.
synthclarion - people keep telling me that we have a similar sense of humour, and we have a number of friends in common. I trust their judgment.
leora - though I've now dropped out due to lack of time, you were there to help me out during both of my stints at helping out in support.
diffrentcolours - I've seen your name around - on friends posts and in communities. I can't offhand find any such entries, but I remember being impressed by what I read.
tsutton - same as above I guess. I remember being surprised when (I think)
dineleeeee said your were our age. I'd've guess at perhaps 15 years older. Sorry ;-)

Relaxing, yet busy. I went flying on both Saturday and Sunday which was great after a 7 week hiatus. Both lessons went very well, so much so that my instructor said it won't be long before I can think about going solo.
Watched Eurovision, for my sins, and as expected it was full of clearly political voting. I was hoping for NorwayWogan's sarcasm was fantastic; at times I really did wonder if it was the acts or the event itself he was ripping.
Sunday after flying went to Dan's place for an afternoon of gaming which was excellent fun.
I really must sort myself out a diary or PDA. Hmm - a thought. I have a Palm m500 somewhere though stopped using it because I found Grafitti to be too slow to be practical. I understand there's a FITALY keyboard (software, I think) available which would help speed things up.
( meme - because it's been a while )

The "10 things" meme
Feb. 28th, 2005 10:18 pmHere are 10 things that I've done that I don't think a lot of you will have done
1) Piloted a plane out of Manchester International Airport
2) Been on prime time TV as one of thestarssubjects
3) Modelled for a photoshoot for a online porn site
4) Nearly drowned at the age of 3
5) Bit hit by a car... twice.
6) Been an studio engineer, editor and presenter at a radio station... sometimes all 3 at the same time.
7) Travelled abroad alone at the age of 12.
8) Held a belching contest with my mum... and lost.
9) Been to a wedding with members of the royal family as brides maids.
10)Been for a bungee jump
It was tough keeping these clean such that I could make it an unlocked post. I might consider making an alternative version ;-)

Interview meme
Feb. 2nd, 2004 03:11 pmThe last round of questions I answered was last July. Anyway, the rules are simple. Leave a comment asking me 5 questions - I'll write an entry with the answers. Similarly post an invite for questions in your own journal and answer them as people respond.
( Questions from trishpiglet )
Wow, those were interesting questions. I enjoyed answering them - lots to think about. Anyone else want a turn?
