1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?
Knitted an item of clothing (end of August 2007) - it was a hat. I've not worn it since; instead I've made better ones - using higher quality yarn and in stripes.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Didn't make any. I won't make any more (until November).I'm doing the 101 tasks in 1001 days thing, and my current set expires then.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
A couple of friends did. [livejournal.com profile] despina for one.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No, thankfully.  I think I made the same comment last year: Each year I know that this is more likely to become a reality.

5. What countries did you visit?
Wales in August.

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
Money going into my pension. (I halted savings a while ago when in my previous job.)

7. What dates from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Lots of fond memories but no dates spring immediately to mind.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Gaining a new job.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Waiting so long before bailing from ex-employer.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Couple of 24hour things last month. Nothing else comes to mind.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Needles'n'yarn.  I count it as one thing anyway :-)

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
[livejournal.com profile] xugglybug, for coping and continuing university in the face of such difficult personal circumstances. It's not my place to give specifics here, but those who know will appreciate the strength of character it takes.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
I try not to spend too much time on this sort of thing.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Food, mortgage.  I expect this will be the case for most on my flist.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
BiCon. PyCon. Penguin Cafe Orchestra gig.

16. What song will always remind you of 2007?
Camera Obscura - Let's Get Out Of This Country.  Was the year I bought the album of the same name and I listened to it lots.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? happier
b) thinner or fatter? about the same.  A little fatter, perhaps, but I can still fit my clothes.
c) richer or poorer? A little richer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Home cooking.  Walking.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Buying take-away.

20. How will you be spending New Year?
I went to Aldgate for some ringing at 2030 and then to the Pembury Tavern in Hackney for late evening socialising.

21.  This vanished somewhere

22. Did you fall in love in 2007?
Came close to it. I think I may just have been misinterpreting my own feelings though. (That said it has set a post brewing.  I'll give it thought over the next few days)

23. How many one-night stands?
None. Surprised?

24. What were your favorite TV programs?
I don't watch a great deal of TV these days.  Earlier on in the year I watched CSI.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Such a destructive emotion. An apathetic disregard for one person but they shall remain nameless.  There's nothing to be gained from a public airing of such information.

26. What was the best book you read?
My literary diet has been mainly reference books which I tend not to read cover-to-cover. Both are quite technical in nature (hey, this is me we're talking about :-) :
The Bob Caller's Companion - a book on conducting bellringing
Perl Best Practices - how to write legible, maintainable perl.  Subjective, of course, but highly informative.

27. What were your greatest musical discoveries?
Camera Obscura.  Architecture In Helsinki. Philip Glass.

28. What did you want and get?
A new job.

29. What did you want and not get?Do I have to mention names? :-)

30. What were your favorite films of this year?
I didn't see any new films. And to think I used to be a cinema projectionist...

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 28. I think I was at work. *checks* . . . Hmm, no entry.  I do remember receiving a card from work, but not what I did.

32.What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Unchanged:  Black trousers, geeky t-shirt.

34. What kept you sane?[livejournal.com profile] bluehelen and [livejournal.com profile] snorkmaiden were both there, multiple times in differing capacities. Thank you both immensely.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
*shrug*

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
The multiple datalosses.  Not the physical loss per se (as that can happen to anyone who handles physical items on a large enough scale), but the fact that it wasn't stored in a strongly protected fashion (putting it at greater risk than otherwise would have been the case).

37. Who did you miss?
[livejournal.com profile] mhw: Various illness and me not going to WGW made meeting incredibly difficult :-/ Other Helen (WINOLJ). We lost track when she moved from Manchester and I lost my phone. (See 39)

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Assuming you meant meat-space eeting rather than online meeting, it'd be [livejournal.com profile] emmavescence. We get on well enough that I was happy enough to invite her as a housemate.  It's been a good few months.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007:
People come.  People go.
Knowing this doesn't make it any easier to deal with.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Nothing really sticks in my mind.  I used to be very lyrically aware but am less so these days.  Perhaps someone else will think of something.

I've seen the privilege meme but have decided not to do it. I don't view with derision or scorn those who have participated, but to me it feels a bit like apologising for ones upbringing. I'm privileged in some ways, not in others. *shrug*

Ditto. My father put himself through university as a mature age student in the 50s after resigning his pension (or whatever the term is) from the Army. He grew up in a very working class suburb of Sydney during the Depression, the effects of which never left him (buying a leg of lamb or a crayfish was a very big deal for him, even when he had a very comfortable income as a municipal valuer, a career made available to him by going to uni) If some people want to see that as being privileged, then *whatever*

Sorry not been around for a while. Time, tide, money and germs. Would be good to meet at some point soon, whether your way or in central. Could you drop me a text, as I have had problems transfering to new phone and have lost some numbers.

I managed to catch up with Nick recently, which was a kind of bizarre day in Oxford. Still very much the boy we used to know, only more so.

See you soon,

dagonet
