I had a hard-drive crash last night. Annoyingly it was on my fileserver and I've lost a lot of data, including the 3rd year uni project dissertaion (an ARM emulator).
I have a backup for that, back it's dated somewhat.
Today's word is "ANNOY".
When will I learn to make backups? </rhetorical_question>

Date: 2002-10-31 02:33 am (UTC)Usually after your first major data loss really :-)
Date: 2002-10-31 03:25 am (UTC)If my flaming server didn't use so much power I would offer that as an off site backup site... As its got a DLT & SLR running on it, so is more than capable of holding data (plus its on ADSL so the backup speed wouldnt be too bad).
Doh.
Need to get some backups done myself actually...
Humm
Cheers for the reminder!

Date: 2002-10-31 06:31 am (UTC)Gah re harddrive... We've had horrible problems with drives being flaky as hell, one is currently being sent back to IBM (don't start me on an ibm rant). Plan is when drive returns we're gonna do a mirror raid on the server here, and burn most of our invaluble data to CD.
Its annoying cos we don't even trust most drive manufacturers these days, all their drives seem to be varying levels of shit... I think go for cheapie nasty drives, replace regularly and mirror the hell out of them.
Gah!
Backing up is dull - agreed. Great procrastiation tool tho.
