Today I set up a Compaq ProLiant DL320 to run Windows 2000. The installation CD wasn't able to access the SCSI disks, so I downloaded a driver CD and used that, only to find out that you can use the CD directly - instead you have to boot from it and create floppy drivers. I did that, only to find that the BIOS can't be flashed until you flick a jumper on the motherboard. Power down, flick switch, flash the BIOS, power down, flick switch, insert windows CD, add driver, reboot. (Pray)

When was the last time you used a floppy disk?

ETA:
Heh. The OS installed was so old that Windows Update wouldn't run. We fixed it manually though.

I'm not talking about mouldy yoghurt.
On Sunday I went to the British Library to see the gallery on London maps. It was a huge queue - almost an hour of waiting. Sadly I was too tired to take much of it in, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Despite previous woes about getting tickets, I've managed to find a pair for Placebo tomorrow night. *fingers crossed* that they arrive in time. I'm so looking forward to that - it made my day yesterday evening when I won the ebay auction. I was so excited that I had to share it with the person to whom I was offering support on the phone :-)

Next Tuesday and Thursday, Ig Nobel are offering a couple of London lectures. I'm going with a colleague to the one on Tuesday. Anyone else fancy joining us? Tickets are free. For those not in London, there are a few other dates/places linked on that page.

Heute Abend geh' Ich bei Deutschclub.

Next saturday will bring a new experience. I shall probably document that after it happens.
