I've known this for some time, but the impact has only really hit me over the past couple of days.

My housemates are going home to see their respecitve families for Christmas. I'm working Christmas day (going home boxing day) so will be in Manchester, alone, for Christmas day.

Anyone want to join me and be sociable? I might even cook dinner...

*hugs you close*

I know I won't be able to be with you that day, but I'll see what I can manage to make it that bit more special.

Missing you.

This probably wont make you feel better, but think about how little fun most people will be having with their families on Christmas. I for one, will be cooped up in my parents' tiny apartment with the fam - a party of dysfunction- and Im not even fucking Christian. The who;e thing is a conspiracy to make people consume anyways. You could volunteer at a food pantry/soup kitchen...Dont think thats much help, but I tried.

What a lovely idea. I might actually do that.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Eep. *hug*

For what it's worth, this'll also be my first Christmas ever away from the family, so you'll be in my thoughts.

(*more hugs*)

I'm on call (to fix anything in case it breaks), and also have to do four hours work in the office answering support queries.

That's what I'd like to do - I just need to find someone who'll be in Manchester and willing to go with me.

Our family actually did that a couple of years back - except we had take-away. The following year we did the same, but with Chinese.

I hate Christmas
I hate the commericalism of it. I'd much rather it was a holiday, with a stronger focus on the social aspect. I enjoy that, but sometimes feel (as someone pointed out in their own LJ; I forget who) that they're people we socialise with because they're family rather than because we're friends with them, or emotionally close to them. Not that I hate any of my family, but some of the relationships sometimes seem forced. Perhaps I'm just a cynic.

*ARGH* Someone's just started to play Slade. *twitch*

I would love to be able to do that. Just imagine. No bitchy comments from my Mum about marriage, morgages, etc. No having to be nice to my brother just because he's my brother. You can do what you want to do, and not what everyone else wants you to do.

If I lived a bit nearer, I would love to spend some time with you on xmas day.... but I live in Derbyshire, so it is harder. If you had the use of a car, you would be more than welcome to come over & join us here. :o)

Did that once - missed going home - but had the house to myself....so I took the chance to enjoy the piece and quiet which was the best thing ever. Bought in loads of Christmassy stuff and had a great night in when I got home from work.
