Last few days / next few days
Oct. 15th, 2005 02:21 amThe Devon->Newcastle hike, depsite the distance, actually turned out very well.
I finished quite early on the Tuesday in Devon, and decided to call in and see my mum for the afternoon. She and Pete were going to a lecture at the RI entitled Anatomy for the terrified, and invited me along. It was quite enjoyable, and felt at somewhere around GCSE level, but that's by no means a criticism, as I'd forgotten a lot of the material I learnt. (It has been, what, 10 years since I did mine). Fuck, that's a long time. I'd been wanting to go to the RI for years, having seen many of the series of lectures on TV during Christmas.
I picked up a programme and a number of the subsequent ones have piqued my interested. In particular, there are two: one on chocology on November 3rd, and another on cryptography. Sadly for the latter one you need to be a member, or attend as a member's guest. I don't suppose anyone on my flist is a member and could be persuaded to go? (I'll even buy your ticket :-)
Newcastle was fab, save for hotel annoyances. Managed to meet up with
sheeshkebab who I'd not seen for a few months, the last time I was working in the area. (April, I think that was).
Today in the office was my last day, havig now worked my notice. I no longer have a job, and it's mildly scary to be able to write that. I'm looking forward to the prospect of change and what's to come.
This evening was my leaving party. It was going to be in The Old Abbey but strangley that place had a private function on, so we went to the nearby Ducie Arms. I do so like those places. They're both quite small pubs, and have a "local" feeling to them and don't play bleating music which is a wonderous thing on a Friday night when most places seem to attempt to deafen.
There then followed a curry at my favourite place, and it seemed to go down well with those in attendance. Then we went to Big Hands for a quick drink and then came home.
Going to London tomorrow for a meeting with the NFA for next year's sumer camp in Arizona. That'll be over by 3pm, so thereafter I'm undecided. Make me an offer?
I hear talks of drinks in the Dev tomorrow evening, though I don't know if I'll be able to attend. I hope to, but can say after much sleep deprivation I will not be up for clubbing. Phone me? (Note that I have a new number - see yesterday's locked post)
Might stay in the London area for a few days, but am back in Manchester on Wednesday for a meeting with the doc, ~1 year after the op.
I'm up in about 4 hours to catch a train, so I'll get myself to bed and babble some more some other time. nn.
