I'm pondering going to WGW

I'm pondering going to Whitby, as I've never been before. Only thing is that I have no ticket and no accommodation booked. Can I blag floorspace/bed share(!) with anyone? Or would it be more hassle than it's worth? Will I miss out on much not having a ticket? (And what /can/ I do without one?) I'm pondering going because I know loads of people that go ona regular basis and it sounds like such fun... but what actually happens. Chemicals are not my thing, though I know it goes on and don't mind so much being around it.

Hmm. I think I've been to... three whitbys now where I haven't booked accomodation, and got by one way or another. Just mention to a few people on the first night that you're in need of a bed and somebody will be able to help - it's a pretty friendly crowd. As for the ticket - if they're sold out by now (just checked - Vagabonds (http://vags.net/catview.php?cid=497&Perk-U-Like=f83ed94709d90f203e7ec8a0c198006a) have a few left), then there's plenty of other stuff to do - a lot of people stick to hanging out in the Elsinore because the main event is getting too expensive for what it is, s most people only come to socialise anyway. Besides, there are afterparties to go to :o)

...and if Vags are sold out, you might be able to pick one up when yuo get there - just ask around in the bar, or pop a note up on the door with your number on it in case somebody wants rid of one.

Yeah, I might just do that. I know enough people there that I should be able to blag something. Are you going this time around?

No, unfortunately - uni timetable doesn't really allow, plus I'm a bit on the far side of skint at the moment :o(

People are selling spare tickets etc on the [livejournal.com profile] whitby community, so that's probably a good place to start doing it.

You don't need a ticket but you won't get into the official evening events without one. You can still go to the shopping areas in the daytime, and hang out at the pub or at one of the few 'alternative' events around town at night though.

Whitby isn't a drug-fest unless you want it to be. Most people just go to see the bands, dress up, hang out with friends, enjoy the fresh air and relish not being 'the only goth in the village'.

but what actually happens

Goths happen. 'Nuff said.

You'll be plenty occupied without a ticket - that only covers your entry into the "official" events and as far as I can tell an awful lot of people stay out of those and hang around the Elsinore and other regular 'haunts'.

I'd love to see you there, but I don't think we can help with accommodation as our house already has sofa-surfers and all beds filled. Good luck!

have you been to Whitby before at all?

By which I meant "have you ever visited that little fishing town when it wasn't full of notagoffs and bleepies and other strange people?"
