eBay pleasantry

Yesterday we had a critical machine fail at work. Some time in the early hours, a fan module died and a machine overheated. It shut itself down preventatively. The outage meant that none of the remote offices could enter accounting data. Our supplier said it would take approximately 5 days to find a replacement.

Instead, we check on eBay and find someone who ships next day. Closer investigate reveals he's in basildon.

Boss: "Hmm, how long is the train to Basildon? 30-40 mins or so?"
Me: "Sounds about right"
Boss: "Fancy going to Basildon?"
Me: "Okay".

We then email the guy asking how far he is from the station. He says that he'll meet me there.

When I arrived, I offered to pay extra money to cover the fact that he wasn't making profit on postage, and the fact that he was meeting me. He outright refused.

Great customer service - vastly better than any of our suppliers.
