R.I.P. John Peel

I make this post not as a public service announcement, but more to channel my thoughts. My friends page is full of people announcing this. It is one of the few celebrity deaths to have such a profound effect on me. (That probably makes me sound insensitive to death. It's not my intent)

I was not a regular listener of either the evening sessions nor of Home Truths, but I thoroughly enjoyed the programs I caught. He was a joy to listen to and had such a perfect radio voice. He will be sadly missed by many and is a great loss not only to the radio industry but also more directly to the music industry. He was always willing to give unsigned bands a chance and helped to make so many of the names we're accostomed to hearing today.

I've just had a realisation. I'm more shaken up about this than I am of that other story.
I'm close to tears here;it's a good thing I'm keeping busy at work today
